1. Read through the Blood Collection Instructions carefully to ensure you are prepared. If you do not complete the card correctly there is a chance that the test will be inconclusive and have to be repeated at an additional cost.
  2. Watch the Blood Collection video
  3. Keep the pre-addressed envelope you received your test kit in, as this will be used to house the blood card when sending to the lab.

  1. Fill in your name and the date on the blood spot card. Complete the Lab Request form.
  2. The collection MUST BE DONE FIRST THING IN THE MORNING AS IT IS A FASTING TEST. You STRICTLY need to fast from 10pm the night before. Please ensure that you have nothing to eat or drink (other than water) while fasting. You may take your evening medication, if applicable, with a sip of water at bedtime.
  3. After brushing your teeth in the morning, PLEASE DO NOT chew gum, it gets your metabolism up and running immediately.
  4. Drink a full glass of water when you wake up, and you may take your morning medication, if applicable.
  5. Please refrain from smoking 30 minutes before you collect your blood.
  6. Wash hands and dry well. Warm hands well if they are cold as this encourages blood flow.
  7. Wipe the inside tip of your ring or middle finger on your non-dominant hand with the alcohol swab.
  8. Use the lancet to prick your finger. To use the lancet, remove the top. Press the open end FIRMLY against your finger and it will release the needle. Press firmly to ensure a deep enough prick to allow blood to flow.
  9. Wipe the first drop of blood away. Gently milk the finger to encourage the blood to flow.
  10. When the drop of blood is large enough, touch the top of the blood drop to the center of the circle. There must be enough blood to cover the circle. This is important as you CANNOT add more blood to the circle already completed.
  11. Repeat until you have applied blood to all the circles.
  12. Cover the bleeding area of your finger with the cotton wool and press to stop the bleeding.
  13. Allow the blood spot card to dry for 2 hours.
  14. Place the card inside the lab request form and insert both into the pre-addressed envelope.
  15. Place the envelope inside a courier bag.
  16. You may use any courier of your choice. Courier to the lab – physical address: North West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 11 Hoffman Street, Building F3 Lab G19, Potchefstroom, 2531.
  17. As only one lab in the country is able to complete this blood analysis, results take 3-4 weeks. Cell Restore will contact you once your results are available.
